The Creation of CPC
Founding CPC
Compassionate People Care was founded by first generation Cuban American, Liz Acosta in 2017 based on a vision God placed in her heart. Since then, she has been able to bring the program to fruition with the hard work of her fellow missionaries and the generosity of many donors over the years. Liz Acosta was inspired to create Compassionate People Care because she felt God calling her to cultivate an array of options for compassionate individuals to help those in need both locally and internationally.
The acronym for Compassionate People Care, CPC, is also representative of its mantra, "Cuba para Cristo, Cristo Para Cuba" which translates to "Cuba for Christ, Christ for Cuba". The mantra speaks to the core of Compassionate People Care and acts as a mission statement for what Liz hoped to achieve through the organization.
The Process
At the start of the program, the mission trips were run under a local church partner. As the program continued to flourish, the options for donors had to be reduced to align with what the church had the capacity for. It was at this point that the need for expansion became clear. With the support of Technology 4 Causes, Compassionate People Care has been able to grow exponentially, spreading awareness of their mission, offering incredible opportunities for donors, and, most importantly, providing more humanitarian aid. Technology 4 Causes will continue to support them in their journey of growth across different countries and the wider Baltimore metro area.
Overcoming Adversity
While creating Compassionate People Care has been an illuminating process, it hasn't come without challenges. Despite being one of the US's closest neighbors, Cuba is arguably the farthest from receiving aid from the US. This is largely due to heavy embargo restrictions and prohibitions from both the Cuban and American governments. Furthermore, open travel (travel without reason beyond tourism) to Cuba is prohibited under US law, leaving many Americans in the dark about the present state of Cuba. This paired with the misconception that the humanitarian aid CPC provides goes to the Cuban government as opposed to the Cuban people may make interested parties hesitant to contribute to aid going to a Communist country. These challenges have not deterred the persistent individuals at CPC; they continue to face these challenges head on because they know it's a cause worth fighting for.
Our Why
The most rewarding aspect of Compassionate People Care always has been and always will be the people. Since its creation, Compassionate People Care has introduced dozens of individuals to Cuba, where they are able to meet the Cuban people and see the life changing effects of the mission first-hand. As the week in Cuba progresses the transformation is evident as they personally watch God's hands at work through the remarkable compassion of humanity. Even with the Christian foundation of the organization, CPC has many non-Christian supporters, showcasing the universality of the CPC mission.

Future of Compassionate People Care
We at Compassionate People Care believe that God has a greater vision intended for us and we hope to grow in tandem with that vision. Eventually, we plan to expand our mission to other areas of Cuba and the Baltimore metro area before venturing beyond Cuba into other countries in need of a little compassion.
