About Liz
Liz is a first-generation Cuban American. Both of her parents migrated to the US as young adults—Dad in 1968 and Mom in 1970. She was born and raised in Miami, Florida, which she affectionately compares to a little Havana. Liz is one of four children and has two sons of her own—Jude (15) and RJ (12). She enjoys visiting family in Miami and exposing her sons to the culture that raised her. Spanish was Liz's first language, so she is fond of every opportunity she gets to use it in the Northeast, where she resides.
Liz has been working closely with and in executive leadership for over 27 years. She started her career in sales at Publishers Business Services in Miami, where she managed a top-producing sales team. She later married and moved to Virginia, where she was the Manager of Operations for 19 Boys & Girls Club sites across the Greater Washington, D.C. metro area. A move further north to Baltimore led her to work as a Manager of Operations for the United Way of Central Maryland. She transitioned from her work at the United Way of Central Maryland to pursue a vocational call to ministry at Mountain Christian Church where she led a Campus team. In 2021, she returned to the United Way of Central Maryland and currently serves as the Associate Vice President of Governance.
Liz has a BS in Administration of Justice from George Mason University and a MA in Christian Ministries from Emmanuel Seminary. Her family currently worships at Community Christian Church in White Marsh. The daughter of two immigrant parents, Liz learned from an early age to love God, work hard, educate yourself as much as possible, and be kind and welcoming to everyone you meet.

Why support Cuba?
I choose to support Cuba because it’s the land of my ancestors, as I am a first-generation Cuban American. I have learned from my parents about the challenges the people of Cuba face on a daily basis through their stories of the past and present and I have also seen it for myself firsthand through over half a dozen trips to the island.
What is your favorite memory/thing about Cuba?
It’s like a place stuck in time, even though many parts are old and falling apart. The vibrant culture, hospitality, and joy the Cuban people radiate are infectious. I can’t get enough!
