Home Runs for the Homeless
About
Presented by Harford Mutual Insurance Group, Home Runs for the Homeless is a charity home run derby that raises both funds and critical awareness for Harford County's families and individuals experiencing homelessness.
Teams will be scheduled for a batting time when their registration form and payment are received by Harford Family House. Typically, batting times are scheduled from 7:30 am to 8 pm, with each team taking about 20 minutes. The IronBirds Batting Cage is open for warm-ups while contestants await their turn.
A registration fee of $1,500 per team grants participants a batter's T-shirt, team photo, swag bag, scoreboard recognition, and a memorable experience. Most importantly, all money raised through the Home Run Derby stays in Harford County to support families and individuals experiencing homelessness in our community through housing, support, and resources.
Why Your Support Matters
When you support a Harford Family House event, your donation doesn’t support a single event – it fuels year-round programs, provides essential services to families and individuals in need, and strengthens a network of volunteers and community partners who make our mission possible. For example:
- Your donation toward a team at Homeruns for the Homeless can cover the costs of a family’s security deposit and moving expenses.
- A sponsorship of $500 can cover the food expenses for 2 nights at the Harford Family House Emergency Shelter.
- Your donation of 2nd Chance Swings for your team can cover the transportation costs for ten Harford Family House individuals to get to and from work for a week.
The goal of Homeruns for the Homeless is to reach 1 million dollars raised by year 20. This year marks 17 years of swinging for the fences and just over $706,000 raised to date! $1 million in funding supports 40 families in transitional housing for a full year, including, rent, utilities, case management support and resources to help the families get back on their feet! From the Emergency Shelter side, $1million in funding provides shelter and support for all 32 residents at the Emergency Shelter for more than a year!
