About

Presented by Harford Mutual Insurance Group, Home Runs for the Homeless (HRS4Homeless) is a charity home run derby that raises both funds and critical awareness for Harford County's families and individuals experiencing homelessness.

HRS4Homeless is an exciting event featuring teams of four players competing in a Home Run Derby at Ripken Stadium. Though, while it is a Home Run Derby, points are the defining scoring system of this event, not home runs. Each team member will have 15 swings, with points awarded based on hitting outcomes, ranging from zero points for cage hits, fouls, and misses to 100 points for home runs. Points will vary, with fair infield hits scoring 10 points, while home runs earn 100 points, aerial wall hits secure 75 points, warning track connections yield 50 points, outfield landings gather 25 points, and infield landings amass 10 points. The team with the highest point score will be awarded a prize. Each team receives a score sheet with each batter’s tally.  The designated team captain reviews and signs the score sheet before handing it back to the scoring official.

Teams will be scheduled for a batting time when their registration form and payment is received by Harford Family House. Typically, the batting times are scheduled from 7:30 am to 8 pm, with each team taking about 20 minutes. The IronBirds Batting Cage is open for warm-ups while contestants are waiting for their turn.

A registration fee of $1,500 per team grants participants a batter's T-shirt, team photo, swag bag, scoreboard recognition, lunch, and a memorable experience. Most importantly, All money raised through the Home Run Derby stays in Harford County, to continue supporting and serving homeless families with children through Harford Family House’s many social programs.
