What Brought Me Here

Prior to this summer, I was seeking out possible internships I could apply to because I wanted to accelerate my professional career and gain work experience. I was particularly interested in joining Technology 4 Causes' (T4C) Transformation Guild because I love writing and forming stories, which I got to do through creating landing pages. I also am passionate about spreading awareness on important topics and lending out a helping hand whenever I can, which aligns with T4C's core mission of bettering and honoring the lives of individuals in our community.

What I'll Take With Me

Over the past summer, I have improved on and gained many new skills. I enhanced my technical skills my learning how to configure landing pages, and expanded my interpersonal skills through working with others and participating in insightful interviews. I was also able to navigate through technical issues by asking for help from fellow interns, which also furthered my collaborative skills. Throughout the summer I have been receiving feedback from various individuals on the work I have done, which opened up my perspective on ideas I hadn't considered before. I truly believe that exchanging thoughts and commentary in groups is beneficial for personal growth, and I am thankful to have experienced that.

My Projects

Home Runs for the Homeless

Home Runs for the Homeless is a baseball event that takes place every year in order to raise funds for the Harford Family House Homeless Shelter. My main project this summer was creating a landing page for the 2025 event, by utilizing pictures, testimonials, stories, and more. I attended the event on July 15th, and interviewed several players on why they came out to play and their proudest moments out on the field. With their responses, I made stories and testimonials, and credited the award winners and the teams present at the event. This event was important to me as I am passionate about helping those in need, and have volunteered at Harford Family House by preparing dinner for the past couple of years.

In addition to the landing page, I also got to interview Heather Volk, the Assistant Director of Harford Family House, about the event. I asked her questions such as "What was the highlight of this year's event?" and "Why is it important to show up for it?" Conducting interviews like the ones I did for this event helped me to expand my interpersonal skills and gain some insight on what factors and skills go into doing interviews.

Charles E. Deale & Associates

Charles E. Deale & Associates is an insurance agency located in Annapolis, Maryland, and is one of our Golf Cart sponsors for this year's golf tournament at the Winters Run Golf Club. By extracting information about their agency from their website, I created a landing page to formally acknowledge their generous efforts towards this cause. Through writing a couple paragraphs on what services they offer and other background information, I learned to create engaging stories about businesses while simultaneously recognizing their contributions.

Intern Spotlights

Every week for around a month this summer, Technology 4 Causes uploaded an "Intern Spotlight" of two interns. These spotlights displayed the intern's name, school, grade, what they do for Technology 4 Causes/Transformation Guild, and why they were motivated to join. I worked alongside another intern, Bruna, to organize the outline for these Intern Spotlights. These spotlight videos are posted on the Technology 4 Causes social media, including Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn, and they are intended to recognize each of the interns here at Technology 4 Causes for their hard work and dedication.

Golf Tournament Sponsorships

For the past couple of months, Technology 4 Causes has been focused on obtaining sponsors for this year's golf tournament. I worked alongside two other interns, Aleeza and Chloe, to reach out to numerous businesses, and we tracked them using an Excel spreadsheet. Using useful sites like Yelp, I searched for local businesses near me, and researched whether they donated to nonprofits and how to reach out to them. I either emailed them or used the inquiry forms listed on their websites to provide some background on who we are as a nonprofit and subsequently request a donation. I was successful in getting a response from Wegmans, who became one of our Hole Sponsors by donating $250.

Appreciation

I am beyond grateful to have been a part of Technology 4 Causes and Transformation Guild over this past summer. The experience I gained while working with them has been incredibly meaningful, and I have learned so much about how to use technology to create powerful stories and support important causes.
