After a life filled with adventure, laughter, music, family, and love, Amy Louise Green passed away on August 7, 2026, at the age of 76.

Amy was born in Athol, Massachusetts, on March 29, 1950. She graduated from Athol High School in 1968 and went on to attend the University of Massachusetts and the University of Maryland, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition.

Amy devoted much of her professional life to public service and science. She worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Westat Consulting Group, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, where she continued her career until her retirement in 2012.

While Amy was accomplished in her career, it was the life she shared with her family and friends that meant the most to her. This was especially true of the time she spent with her grandchildren—Chase, Max, Isabel, Elizabeth, Adam Jr., and Benya El Shazli. Amy took an active and loving role in their lives and could often be found reading a book with one of them, beating someone at a game, jumping into the deep end of the pool, or simply spoiling them with a new toy or dessert. She gave them her time, encouragement, imagination, and laughter, creating countless memories they will cherish throughout their lives.

Beyond her deep love for her family, Amy was a steadfast friend to many. She had a gift for making people feel welcome and at home. Her door was always open, and visitors—invited or not—were welcomed with a meal, a story, a joke, or simply a place to sit and spend time together. Amy generously gave her time, her home, her talents, and, most importantly, her love. She found genuine joy in doing things for others and had a special way of making the people around her feel cared for, remembered, and important.

Amy was also a world traveler and fearless adventurer who embraced life with curiosity and enthusiasm from a young age. She was a wonderful cook, a natural entertainer, quick-witted and funny, and someone who knew how to make ordinary moments memorable. Music was another special part of Amy’s life. She played the clarinet, recorder, and flute, reflecting the curiosity and adventurous spirit that defined so much of who she was. Even when life presented challenges, Amy met them with remarkable determination and resilience, never losing her humor, curiosity, or desire to keep experiencing all that life had to offer.

Amy was preceded in death by her parents, Charlotte and O.V. Green, longtime residents of Athol; her beloved youngest brother, David Monroe Green; and her brother-in-law, John deMontigny.

She leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory, including her sisters, Anne Frances (Green) El Shazli and Alice Carol (Green) deMontigny, and her brother, James Andrew Green.

Amy was a devoted and loving mother to her sons, Ashref El Shazli, and his wife, Caroline (Blackwell) El Shazli, and Adam El Shazli. She was a cherished grandmother to Chase, Max, Isabel, Elizabeth, Adam Jr., and Benya El Shazli.

She also leaves her beloved niece, Charlotte El Shazli Grinage, who was like a daughter to her, and Charlotte’s husband, Darren Grinage; niece Kimberly Vincent and her husband, Robert Vincent, and their children, “MJ” and Garrett Vincent; niece Ashley Potts, her partner, Pete Mitchell, and their son, Caleb Mitchell; nieces Jessica Green and Aimee Newton; and nephews Josh Green and Geoffrey Newton.

Amy’s life was not defined only by where she worked or the places she traveled. It was defined by the people she loved, the laughter she shared, the adventures she embraced, and the lasting impressions she made. She had a remarkable ability to turn a gathering into a celebration and an ordinary day into a story worth telling.

Amy left the world a little brighter simply by being in it. She loved deeply, laughed often, and leaves behind family traditions and countless memories that will continue to bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
