The Joshua Hamer Legacy Project
Joshua Hamer's Legacy
About Josh Hamer
Joshua Hamer was a passionate athlete, student, and friend whose infectious energy effortlessly uplifted everyone around him. As a John Carroll baseball player and recipient of a highly competitive scholarship, Josh exemplified the values of John Carroll in everything he did. He possessed an ambitious spirit and the determination to pursue his goals while inspiring those around him to do the same. Outside of baseball, Josh enjoyed music, dancing, and spending time outdoors. Josh was a sophomore at John Carroll High School when he tragically lost his life in a car accident on March 2, 2017.
Our Mission
The Joshua Hamer Legacy Project is a unified initiative dedicated to honoring and continuing the lasting impact of Josh’s life and legacy. The Joshua Hamer Memorial Fund and the Joshua Hamer Legacy Foundation were lovingly established by Josh’s mother, Jennifer Hamer, whose unwavering dedication has ensured that Josh’s spirit continues to inspire others.
Building upon this incredible foundation, the Joshua Hamer Legacy Project, operated by the Baseball Legacy Society, brings these initiatives together under one vision. The project also integrates other impact programs to expand Josh's reach and to keep all of these initiatives going for future generations.
Guided by Josh’s spirit of generosity, leadership, and compassion, the Project supports educational scholarships, community outreach, student leadership and internship opportunities, and continued improvements to the John Carroll baseball field where Josh’s love for the game began. Together, these initiatives ensure that Josh’s legacy continues to grow, creating meaningful opportunities and lasting impact for years to come.
Initiatives Supported by the Project
High School Scholarships - From an early age Josh demonstrated incredible aptitude in school where he consistently excelled. As a result of his academic excellence, Josh was able to attend John Carroll with the aid of a scholarship intended to give dedicated students the opportunity to better themselves at John Carroll. While at John Carroll, Josh continued to grow into a respectable scholar and served as number 25 on the baseball field. The Josh Hamer Memorial Fund hopes to invest in students like Josh and prompt them to continue his legacy of excellence at John Carroll. In support of this cause the Josh Hamer Memorial Fund awards between one and three scholarships to baseball players in the 8th grade with an interest in attending John Carroll and commitment to making an impact.
College and Trade School Scholarships - In the interest of continuing Josh Hamer's legacy of impeccable scholarship and commitment to education, the Josh Hamer Legacy Foundation offers a scholarship towards a college education. The scholarships are available to any Anne Arundel, Cecil or Harford County high school senior with demonstrated financial need. The foundation aims to make college more accessible for students of varying financial backgrounds. As of now, the scholarship has aided twelve seniors in their college careers with that number climbing every year. Through this initiative the Josh Hamer Legacy Foundation hopes to encourage and empower lower income students to pursue a higher education and carry on the ambitions, values, and legacy of Joshua Hamer.
Joshua's Helping Hands
Community and Family Support - Josh Hamer was an exemplary member of his community and made volunteering a priority in addition to school and athleticism. Josh genuinely adored humanity and was a friend to everyone, his compassion manifested in his consistent commitment to community service. The Josh's Helping Hands Initiative acts as a continuation of Josh's extensive legacy of community service by not only supporting the community but also by creating local volunteer opportunities. The Helping Hands initiative brings communities together through a shared passion for service and humanitarianism.
This initiative includes Adopt a Family, a Christmas program designed to ensure lower income families are able to have a happy and fulfilling holiday season, giving individuals the opportunity to contribute on a more personal level
Student Internships - Similar to the prominent investment in the academic success of students in need, the Josh Hamer Legacy Project works to provide students with opportunities outside of the classroom. Josh was heavily involved in both his school and community. In honor of Josh's dedication the Josh Hamer Legacy Project sponsors the Joshua Hamer Laureate in the Transformation Guild student internship program run by Technology 4 Causes. The Transformation Guild invests in the next generation of leaders by providing students with meaningful internship opportunities that build real-world skills, confidence, and a heart for service. Through hands-on projects, mentoring, and collaboration with nonprofit organizations, interns gain experience in technology, communications, marketing, event planning, and community engagement. By supporting Transformation Guild, the Josh Hamer Legacy Project helps empower young people to make a positive impact—reflecting Josh's commitment to helping others and making a difference.
Joshua's Home Dugout
Ballpark Improvements - The baseball field at John Carroll is where Josh spent countless hours playing the game he loved. As part of the Josh Hamer Legacy Project, we are committed to preserving and enhancing this special place for future generations of student-athletes. Ongoing improvements help create an even better experience for players, families, and fans while honoring Josh's legacy. One of the exciting projects currently in development is "Joshua's Home Dugout," a dedicated space that will serve as a lasting tribute to Josh and the values he represented both on and off the field.
