Josh Hamer Memorial Scholarship Fund
Jen Hamer's Welcome
Josh was kind hearted, outgoing, and had a genuine love for life. While Josh loved all sports, he lived and breathed baseball. Josh was always active and loved being around people. He enjoyed music, dancing, and the outdoors. Josh had a very competitive drive, was hardworking and very intelligent. He was active in school groups, Young Life, and volunteering in his communities. Josh's contagious smile was always present and could light up any room.
The Joshua Hamer Memorial was founded in memory of my son, Josh, who passed away on March 2, 2017. Josh attended John Carroll on a scholarship and was growing into an amazing scholar, athlete, and young man when his life was cut short. This scholarship is designed to give one student the extra help needed to attend John Carroll and better themselves just like Josh did.
Joshua's legacy will always be present in his communities, John Carroll, and his friends and families lives.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Hamer

News & Events
Homers for Hamer
The very first "Homers for Hamer" took place on September 16, 2017. The event was put on by two John Carroll Seniors, Ryan Archibald and Grant Astle, who played along side the rising star pitcher Joshua Evan Hamer. Ryan and Grant have chosen to make this a part of their Senior Projects. This event, along with the Hamer Memorial Tournament, will be annual events with the purpose of raising money for the Hamer Scholarship Fund. The fund was created to help to lower the cost of tuition for baseball players, whose families have difficulties when considering John Carroll as a potential school for their son due to finances. We are so grateful for all the generosity and support from the JC and greater Community.
THANK YOU!

SCHOLARS: Past & Present
My name is Cameron Leach, and I am currently in 9th grade at John Carroll. I developed a love for baseball at a young age while watching my brother play. I’ve been playing since I was 4 and played with Hickory through age 12. I now play for US Elite Baseball.
I am honored to have received the Joshua Hamer Scholarship in 2021 with Will Rhine and Dallas Brooks. It means a ton that I have been chosen to receive this scholarship and continue Joshua’s legacy. I have been involved in the Joshua Hamer Memorial Tournament for multiple years both as a player and a volunteer. It has been a great experience and I look forward to continuing my involvement in the future. I would like to thank Ms. Jen and The John Carroll School, along with everyone else who has given me this opportunity. I am excited for the next four years and hope to accomplish great things both in the classroom and on the baseball field!

Hello, my name is Dallas Brooks. I am from Rising Sun, Maryland and I am in the class of 2025. I am a proud Joshua Hamer Scholarship award winner. I started to fall in love with the game of baseball from watching the Orioles play every game while I was in the hospital for a long period of time when I was a small child. I started playing baseball when I was 4 years old and have had the opportunity to play against some of the best teams in the country, all up and down the East Coast with US Elite National.
I am very honored and excited to receive this scholarship and carry on Josh’s legacy both in the classroom and on the baseball field. Personally, I didn’t know Josh, but from what I have seen and heard about him from people that did, he was an amazing person and I hope to live up to his standards and his legacy. The Hamer Scholarship makes attending John Carroll possible for me and allows me to continue working toward reaching my goal of playing baseball at the next level. Attending John Carroll will create opportunities for myself that I hope to use to give back. I know living up to Josh’s legacy will be tough, but I promise you that I will work extremely hard every day to try to represent him and this scholarship in the best way possible. I can’t express enough how much this opportunity means to me and how grateful I am.
Thank you,
Dallas Brooks, Class of 2025
My name is Ben Shutt. I am in 8th grade at North Harford Middle. I am honored to have received The Joshua Hamer Memorial Scholarship for 2020, which will help me attend The John Carroll School. I first learned about Joshua Hamer’s story in 2018 when I played in the Joshua Hamer Memorial Tournament hosted by John Carroll. It was there that I learned about how important and personal Josh’s memory and character is to the school and the baseball program. I have played baseball for many years in the Hickory Hornets travel program and now for the Mid Atlantic U.S. Elite 2024 team. My other sports passion is playing football and I enjoy fishing, hunting and skiing when not on the baseball or football field.
I recognize that Joshua’s family, community, and baseball program work very hard to support this scholarship. I vow to hold myself to the high standard set by Joshua and the previous scholarship winners honoring him, while contributing my own experiences to this scholarship community and helping for future recipients.
I am looking forward to beginning my high school career and playing for a team that I can eventually call my family. I would like to thank Mrs. Jen Hamer and the Foundation for providing me with this special opportunity as well as The John Carroll School and my family. Selfless. Relentless. Pride.
Hello, my name is Jack Burton and I am 14 years of age. I will be entering my freshman year at the John Carroll School after spending my middle school years at Perry Hall Middle School. I have played competitive baseball for the last seven years with the White Marsh Warriors, coached by the late Greg Redmer Jr. I am honored to have been chosen as a co-recipient this year of the Joshua Hamer Memorial Scholarship, along with my fellow White Marsh Warriors teammate Matthew Bishop. The Joshua Hamer Scholarship has given me an opportunity to receive a great education here at John Carroll. My interests in school are science and math, and I am excited to join the cross-country team for the fall. The John Carroll school offers many other opportunities and I am grateful for the chance to explore new activities and meet new friends. I am very excited to continue my love for baseball and become part of the John Carroll baseball family and contribute not only on the field, but within the school and the community. I would like to thank Ms. Jennifer Hamer, her Board of Directors, my parents, and the John Carroll School for this opportunity.
Thank you,
Jack Burton

We are elated to announce this year's recipient of the Josh Hamer Scholarship is Ben Pierce. While all of the applicants were incredibly talented and accomplished young men, Ben's essay touched us deeply. Ben wrote in his essay "I know that I will honor Josh every day I wake up by doing what I expect myself to do. I will show the courage, dedication, respect and focus that the John Carroll School, Josh and his family deserve and will be proud of." We know you will Ben and that is why we chose you! Here are a few words from Ben himself.
"Hello, my name is Ben Pierce. I am 14 years old and currently in 8th grade at South Hampton Middle School. I was born and raised 1 mile away from John Carroll. I grew up playing baseball in the Hickory baseball program and I am now playing for the Blue Chips Baseball Club.
I am proudly the 2018 recipient of the Joshua Hamer Scholarship. I am very excited to receive this scholarship and honored to be able to carry on Josh's legacy. Being able to attend John Carroll and surround myself with such great people is nothing but a dream come true. I will approach every day with an appreciation and obligation to uphold a high standard of work ethics and character both in the classroom and on the field. A standard that so many others have set before me including Josh Hamer.
I am looking forward to getting started on an excellent education and becoming a part of the John Carroll family. I would like to thank Mrs. Jen, my parents and the John Carroll School for giving me this opportunity.
I am truly blessed."
Thank you,
Ben Pierce, Class of 2022"

We are pleased to announce the first recipient of a scholarship from the Joshua Hamer Memorial Scholarship Fund. Tyler Blittersdorf is transferring into John Carroll this fall as a member of the class of 2019. Without the love and support of each of you, this would not have been possible. On behalf of Tyler and his family, we are thankful for everyone that has contributed in so many different ways. A few words from Tyler are below. Congratulations Tyler, we know you will be highly successful at John Carroll!
"Hi, my name is Tyler Blittersdorf and I will be entering my junior year of high school this year at the John Carroll School. I am a transfer student from Oxford Area High School, the local public school for my hometown of Oxford, Pennsylvania. Oxford is what I consider to be a small town, not a ton of citizens to be globally known but enough to be recognized by the surrounding areas with a large amount of diversity among the people of this town with lots of wide, spread out farm land, the slowly increasing developments, to the apartments in the center of town. I have been selected as the recipient of the Josh Hamer Memorial Scholarship and I am well overjoyed to be the recipient as well as being honored to carry on the legacy of a cherished young man. I am currently 16 years of age turning 17 this October with a positive mindset about what the future holds for myself. Some of you may know me from currently or previously playing, most likely baseball with your son in the last couple of years as I had been a part of the Arena Starz organization for a year and currently finishing my second year with the Blue Chips Baseball Club. I have great hopes for the John Carroll School in search for an enhanced education as well as a phenomenal and supportive student body, supporting the athletes and sports teams.
Thank you,
Tyler Blittersdorf, Class of 2019"
