About the Award
The Changemaker Challenge is a prestigious event organized by the United Way to recognize and support innovative and impactful community initiatives. This year, we were honored to be selected as one of the eight Harford County finalists. Each finalist received a $1,500 stipend to refine and enhance their projects.
The challenge evaluates projects based on innovation, impact, and implementation strategies. Our project, Volunteer Harford, impressed the judges with its innovative approach to connecting non-profits and volunteers through a centralized, digital platform. Executive Director John Kutcher presented at the event, where we were awarded a $15,000 United Way Grant to bring the Volunteer Harford idea to life.

What is Volunteer Harford?
Overview
Volunteer Harford is an innovative platform designed to connect non-profits and volunteers within Harford County. By serving as a centralized hub, Volunteer Harford allows non-profits to post their needs and volunteers to register, creating a streamlined process for matching community needs with passionate individuals eager to help. The platform also facilitates digital storytelling, enabling both non-profits and volunteers to share their experiences and successes, fostering deeper connections and community engagement. This centralized hub will be connected to the existing Harford Helps website.
Future Vision
Our vision for Volunteer Harford is to become the go-to resource for volunteer opportunities and community engagement in Harford County. The platform will offer:
- A Searchable Hub: Volunteers will be able to find opportunities that match their interests and skills through keyword searches and filters.
- Comprehensive Profiles: Non-profits can create detailed profiles, including contact information, links, and descriptions of their missions and needs.
- Digital Storytelling: The platform will feature AI-powered, branded landing pages that are actionable, searchable, and shareable. These pages can be created by non-profits, volunteers, or community members without the need for technical skills like coding.
- Multi-Device Compatibility: The landing pages will work seamlessly on all devices and can be linked from any website or social media platform.
With the support of the $15,000 United Way Grant, we aim to launch Volunteer Harford and make a significant, positive impact on our community by promoting volunteerism, fostering connections, and strengthening the culture of giving.
