Familiarize with AED usage

There is no substitute for a little to no training when lives are on the line. Taking the time to familiarize yourself with what will occur when you open up an AED, which will give you more precision and comfort in a time of crisis. This allows you to remain levelheaded when you may be the only one standing between life and death for a fallen teammate. See the resource section below for resources to assist in gaining this familiarity.

Increase AED accessibility

The use of an AED can dramatically increase the odds of survival of a sudden cardiac arrest. To maximize the chances of AED accessibility, it is helpful for as many people as possible to have portable AED devices that they bring to sporting events, and for all participants and fans to know the fixed locations for AEDs within athletic facilities. Shocks 4 Jocks looks to assist by taking the initiative to build a nationwide directories of AED locations, as well as to provide resources for citizen purchasing of AEDs.

The Story of Chuck Gordy

The Inspiration Behind Shocks 4 Jocks

Chuck Gordy was playing in an adult baseball event at the Delmarva Shorebirds stadium. When
he experienced a sudden cardiac arrest in the second inning, the quick action of his teammates
and spectators to start CPR, coupled with another participant having an AED in their car,
allowed Chuck to survive against all odds. It took over six minutes for the AED to bring Chuck
back to consciousness following constant CPR. Paramedics were not able to arrive at the scene
for nine minutes, a time that would’ve been too long. It is without question that Chuck is alive
today because of an accessible AED being present, and ordinary citizens having the courage
and CPR training to take action.

Resources

At Shocks 4 Jocks, we are committed to creating localized and specialized resources to ensure maximum preparedness among recreational sports participants and spectators.

AED Store

Shocks 4 Jocks has been established as a distributor for 80 days so that we can help make
them available to fellow baseball and other recreational sports users. Click here to visit our
store, and consider purchasing an AED to have with you at all times or to place in organizations
or facilities that do not presently have one. Baseball 4 Causes will provide an event participation
credit for all AED purchases through our store. And then we can have a button that goes to our
AED store and that would be its own landing page which would be very simple. It would
describe the two products which are the P350 and the P360. Josh is giving us a high-level
overview of each of them. We could put the picture of each device, which is probably the same
picture. We could also have a card for our Baseball 4 Causes event credit. It would be $200 for
the 350 and $250 for the 360.

CPR Training

We are initially focusing in the northern Maryland area, and wish to compile a list of CPR
training resources which we will list here in our directories. This could have a button for sharing
resources that would have an information intake form that we would list. We should probably
pre-populate it with at least two or three obvious links that we could find through a simple
Google search.

AED Directories

Chuck Gordy was only saved because a participant happened to have an AED. It turns out that
there wasn't an AED in the stadium. Other participants scrambled on the hunch that there was
one, and they were able to find it in about eight minutes. Which would’ve been about six
minutes too late to save Chuck’s life. If all the participants of that event had known where the
AED was, the chance of some Chuck would’ve had a chance of survival without The random
fortune of a portable AED. being in a participant's car. And Shocks 4 Jocks we want to increase
the size of survival by using technology to build a nationwide database of fixed AED. locations
at all amateur sporting facilities. We will start this grand ambition one sport at a time and one
region at a time. We are presently focusing on the Maryland area within baseball. But this link
will be used to gather AED. locations for all sports and venues. And then share AED location
can be a button, and I can go to a form that will ask for the facility and the description of the
location and the address of the location and give an opportunity to upload a map that would
show the AED locations.

Share Your Story

We believe that sharing stories of lives saved can inspire others to take the necessary steps for preparedness.

Share Your Story

We want to use technology to make it easy to compile an inspirational database of lives that
have been saved by the quick action of teammates, and fans at amateur sporting events. We
will use the stories to share with participants of those specific sports to help them realize the
importance of preparation. It is no exaggeration to say that more lives will be saved by sharing
stories, and inspiring others to take the same steps that have saved two people so far. This item
could have a button to share a story.
