DBW 21
A Huge Success!
DBW 21 is in the books and a great time was had by all. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation fundraiser on the Saturday of DBW 21 was a record success. Supported by early corporate and individual donations, the day of the event brought additional funds from the 50/50 and the awesome silent auction. We raised over $14,000 this year! This total exceeds the previous two years combined.
Additionally, there was on-site support by the Salisbury and Fruitland Fire Departments, the Delmar Police Department, the Wicomico County Sheriff's Department, and the Wheels That Heal Car Club. We also had former Baltimore Orioles players Al Bumbry, Tippy Martinez, Bill Swaggerty, Glenn Gulliver and Dave Ford on hand to sign autographs for the event attendees. In between the first and second games on Saturday, these players were honored on the field for their appearance in the 1983 World Series and a win over Philadelphia.
Matthew Heacook was on hand Sunday to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Matthew is the son of the late CPL Keith Heacook of the Delmar PD. CPL Heacook died on April 28, 2021, from injuries received during a call three days earlier in which he was severely beaten by an assailant.
The entire weekend was a huge success, and the fundraiser only made it that much better. Congratulations to Miller Time on winning the event and to all of the teams and great competition. Read below to see the details!
Champions
Miller Time
Miller Time, managed by Mike Miller, was the only team in DBW 21 to go undefeated. After a 3-3 tie against the Bombers in their first game, they dominated the rest of the field.
They scored seven or more runs in their final four games and didn't allow more than four runs once in the tournament. In addition, they were the only team in the tournament to score double-digit runs twice.
Overall, they outscored their opponents (44-14), capping off their championship run with a 7-4 victory over the Krushers.

Game Recaps
Day 1
The first day of DBW 21 saw two teams claim a victory, and only two teams finish without a loss... the Krushers and Miller Time. In addition, three of the five games were decided by two or less runs, one of which ended in a tie. There was a bit of drama in game 3 between the Krushers and Orioles over an infield fly rule that saw the Krushers win it on a walk-off single off the bat of Paul Maldeis.
Day 2
The second day of DBW 21 had the potential to have a three-way tie in Division 1, but the Hot Toddies were unable to win their third pool play game, which would have set up a match up with the Krushers that could have forced a three-way tie breaker with the Orioles. That in turn could have potentially brought the day 1 infield fly controversy back into play, but no such drama was meant to be. The Krushers wound up clinching at 3-0 before that game was even played. In Division 2, Miller Time won both of their games against the Hot Toddies and Orioles. There was a potential scenario where the Bombers and Miller Time could be tied at 2-1-1 after the morning games, and also tied head-to-head following their 3-3 tie on Friday.
Day 3
On the final day of DBW 21, a champion was crowned ... but not before four other games. We got the day started with a 4-3 win for the Orioles over the Bombers, who improved to 2-0 in the 8 AM time slot, but went 0-3 in the others. Miller Time then picked up a 10-4 victory over the Stud Murfins, scoring double digit runs for the second time in the tournament.
We then moved on to the first of three playoff games. The Stud Murfins, playing in back-to-back games, finally picked up a win, defeating the Orioles 10-6. The Studs scored four runs in the final two innings, and John Redden shutout the Orioles over the final four innings for the win. Following that one, The Hot Toddies, playing for the first time today, picked up a 9-5 victory over the Bombers.
The Championship featured the one-loss Krushers, and an undefeated Miller Time squad. The latter team said they were going to win it all after their first game, and they did just that defeating the Krushers, 7-4. Congrats to Manager Mike Miller and his squad on their DBW 21 championship!
Record Tunnel to Towers Fundraiser
Tunnel to Towers
At the 2nd event later in the summer or early fall, we have an all-day fundraiser on Saturday to benefit the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. This foundation was started by the brother of a New York city firefighter who tragically lost his life on September 11, 2001. The foundation was set up in the memory of his brother, Stephen Siller, and is primarily focused on building or renovating homes for catastrophically injured emergency service workers and our military. They also pay off mortgages of those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice and left behind a spouse/family with an existing mortgage.
To date, we have raised over $24,000 and will continue to make each year a bigger and better event. We have a 50-50 and silent auction inside the stadium and have emergency equipment, local car clubs and live music out in the parking lot.
T2T In-Review
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation fundraiser on the Saturday of DBW 21 was a huge success. Supported by early corporate and individual donations, the day of the event brought additional funds from the 50/50 and the awesome silent auction. Currently, we sit at $13,685 and we still expect a few donations to be coming in over the next few days.
Matthew Heacook (pictured) was on hand Sunday to throw out the ceremonial first pitch as he couldn't make it on Saturday. Matthew is the son of the late, CPL Keith Heacook, of the Delmar PD.
