Kelly Brocki

Hall of Fame Inductee '24

About

Kelly grew up in Charlottesville, VA and first played baseball in the C-Ville Little League.

He learned about the DCMSBL from his dad who played, and began playing in 2011.

"There are really too many fond memories to single out just one. From veterans to new K-Flames players, the thing that always makes me laugh are the excuses I get for why a player is late or can’t make a game last minute. From one of them showing up at West Potomac when the game is a West Springfield, to someone forgetting their pants, to late night shenanigans, to everyone playing weather man leading up to the game. No matter what happens, we always find a way with the roster we have that day to play the game and have a whole lot of fun while we’re doing it. Whether at post-game beers or the end of the season cookout, we always find a way to laugh together."

Remarks

"I’d like to thank my awesome wife for supporting me and my love of baseball throughout 13 seasons and counting. My two little girls, Coewyn and Carrigan, for always cheering us on. My sister, Aja, who serves as the team statistician — she’s an accountant which translates to her being laser focused on the bookkeeping. The guys attempt to plead their case to overturn their errors, but she doesn’t budge. I’d also like to thank the team, both veterans that started year 1 with me Jared Moon/Josh Matthews and all the newcomers, who bring their passion and dedication year over year. Last but certainly not least, I’d like to give a huge shoutout to my assistant coach, fellow K-Flames veteran and close friend, Patrick Semmens, for managing the team alongside me from day one."

"People often think the “K” in our team name, K-Flames, is somehow related to my name being Kelly. But actually I established this team in the DCMSBL league to honor my late father, Mark “Kid Flame” Brocki. Growing up, my sister and I spent countless summers/Falls watching our Dad play in the MSBL league in Charlottesville/Florida/Arizona Tournaments. His bright orange-red hair earned him the nickname “Kid Flame” — later shortened to K-Flame. My Dad’s love of baseball lives on through me and this amazing team each and every game."
