DCMSBL Digest - May 2025
DCMSBL News
Season Openers!
The 30s, 40s, and 50s are underway (but some delayed by rain)!
The Silver Sox and Grays were supposed to open the 30s season on Monday, May 5th, but rain had other ideas.
The 40s successfully got in both games on opening weekend, while the 50s had all three games postponed due to the weather, pushing their opening day back two weeks until after the Mother's Day holiday.
Game Cancellations / Field Status
Managers - this is a reminder that a final decision on games being cancelled is done by the league. We will always do our best to get the game in ... even if that means trying to move locations and/or time of the game.
On weekends when Loudoun/Fairfax counties do not update the field status online, it is your responsibility to coordinate with the other team to have someone check the field three hours prior to your game. Three hours is the cutoff time for us to cancel umpires if needed.
On weekdays when field status is updated, we will not cancel the game until three hours beforehand in case the field status is updated. Please do not email us and tell us that the game is cancelled. And please know that on gameday, we are checking the field status and will notify you as needed.
Lastly, if a game is ultimately cancelled, please know that we will do our best to get it rescheduled, but there is always a chance it could become a no-contest. In the scenario where a makeup date/time is reasonable, and one team is unwilling/unable to get a team together, it will be treated as a forfeit.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
Contacting the DCMSBL/T4C Team
Managers - there has been some confusion on who to contact regarding games, rescheduling, field status, free agents, and general questions.
For ANYTHING other than free agents, please email us at dcmsbl@dicorp.com. This ensures our entire team sees your email. This is very important as some weekends, members of our team are NOT available and aren't checking their emails/phones.
For free agent questions/requests, please contact Harrison directly at hswartz@dicorp.com.
Field Maintenance
As a general reminder, teams are required to follow the field maintenance rules specified at each field. When playing at Fairfax County HS fields, you should rake AND fill all holes created on the mount and around home plate. Field maintenance for Loudoun County and Montgomery County regional park fields are the sole responsibility of those agencies, meaning, our teams are NOT allowed to do anything to those fields.
In addition, BOTH teams need to assist with field prep and close down. Also, when you leave your game, please make sure to pick up all trash and take home all of your belongings.
To view field maintenance rules, click the button which will take you the "locations" page of the DCMSBL website.
Our team would like to thank you for continuing to take pictures of the field you played on once clean up is done. This has already been helpful multiple times.
Postseason Baseball Bags
Managers - as a reminder, you are not to use any of the baseballs in the baseball bag you were given at the Manager Meeting until the postseason begins. Please do not lose these bags as they will be passed on to the manager in the case where you lose your postseason game.
Please let us know if you have any questions!
Free Agents
We wanted to give an update where we currently stand with free agents in each age group, as well as some general reminders to managers and players:
- Managers should send an email to Harrison Swartz (hswartz@dicorp.com) when requesting free agents. They should not post on the Facebook group or respond to those posting about being a free agent in the Facebook group.
- If you are sent a free agent and they join your team, please inform Harrison Swartz so he can move that player to your roster. Do not have the player create a new registration.
- If you are sent a free agent and they do NOT join your team, please inform Harrison Swartz so he can try to place the player on another team.
- There are 17 free agents available in the 18+ division. A handful of them are pitchers
- There are FIVE free agents available in the 30+ division.
- There is currently ONE free agent in the 40+ division.
- There are a handful available in the 50+ and 60+ division.
70+ Division Expansion
The 70s division, now in its second season, has expanded from two to four teams! A great success in the inaugural season, there was plenty of interest among managers and players to expand the division. The four teams and their managers for 2025 are:
- Cardinals (Heater Heatley)
- DC Nats (John Ambler and Jeff Levine)
- Mudhens (Duane Willoughby)
- The Spirit (Bob Shelton)
There is very limited availability to join the 70+ division in 2025. If you are interested, please contact us at dcmsbl@dicorp.com.
