2024 B4C Harford Experience Recap

Thanks for Making the Second-Ever B4C Harford Experience a Success!

The Harford Experience

Congratulations to Teams C and D for winning the Championship Game!

The Harford Experience was a resounding success this year, featuring over 35 participants—a mix of local players and travelers from Pennsylvania, Florida, and California. The two-day baseball tournament took place on July 16th-17th, 2024, at Harford Community College’s varsity field and John Carroll High School’s Alumni Field at Kutcher Foundation Stadium—two of the finest playing surfaces in the Mid-Atlantic.

Despite the wide age range of participants, with players in their 30s to their 70s, the games were highly competitive. Several home runs were hit, and players persevered through the hot and sunny 95-degree weather during their 7-inning games.

With the new team format this year, each player had the chance to play with and against everyone else. We had four teams of 6-8 players: Alpha, Bravo, Delta, and Charlie, which paired up for the games. The team pairings rotated for each game, with one of our squad leaders—Steve Murfin, Todd Hyson, or Charlie Deale—captaining the combined teams. This unique twist added an extra layer of excitement to the event!

Beyond our on-field successes, we also had some memorable moments off the field. Be sure to read below about the poolside cookout hosted by John and Sue!

Tuesday Night Cookout

On opening night, staff, players, and their families gathered at John and Sue’s house after the games for a cookout and a Q&A session with Dave Johnson, former Oriole player and current broadcaster for the O's. Adding to the evening's entertainment, John’s son Steven and his band played some classic rock songs. It was a fantastic time, with players enjoying some much-needed relaxation in the pool and hot tub after a long day of summer baseball.

Baseball 4 Causes

Baseball 4 Causes (B4C) is the baseball philanthropy division of Technology 4 Causes, a non-profit organization dedicated to making a positive impact through technology and support services.

Our mission is to create a positive impact in the baseball community and the wider local community by fostering fellowship through the playing of baseball, enhancing educational activities and event experiences through our technology platform, and engaging in initiatives that support worthwhile causes that give back to the community.

Nancy Murfin Scholarship

The Nancy Murfin Scholarship was established in 2021 at Frederick Memorial Hospital to honor Mrs. Nancy Murfin, a cherished mother, grandmother, and community advocate. Mrs. Murfin was renowned for her passion for sports, being a devoted fan of the Baltimore Orioles, Washington Redskins, and University of Maryland sports teams.

Driven by a deep appreciation for caregivers and her commitment to community service, Mrs. Murfin chose to fund a nursing scholarship. With a generous donation of $25,000, the Nancy Murfin Scholarship Fund was created. This fund supports Frederick Health employees in achieving their nursing aspirations and provides opportunities for current nurses to enhance their expertise through advanced education.

We are honored to contribute to this meaningful cause and celebrate Mrs. Murfin’s enduring legacy of support for healthcare professionals while we offer our continuous thanks to Murf for all the work he's done for the 2024 Harford Experience and our other Baseball 4 Causes events.
